Let Go of Clutter

The first step to getting organized is letting go of all that excess clutter that builds up over time. That means going through every room in the house and deciding what should stay and what should go.

As you sort through items, ask yourself if they serve any purpose or bring you joy. (Think Marie Kondo.) If not, then it’s time to say goodbye!

Donate or recycle anything that you don’t need or want anymore; this will help make your home more manageable while also benefiting others.

Create Systems

Once you’ve decluttered your space, it’s time to create simple systems that will help keep it organized. Start by designating a spot for each item in your home; for instance, designate a specific drawer for spices or a shelf for books.

If possible, label each drawer or container so that everyone knows where things belong—this will make tidying up much quicker and easier!

Additionally, designate one day per week as “cleaning day” so that everyone knows when it’s time to put things back where they belong. I like to have my cleaning day on Fridays. It sets me up for a stress-free weekend!

Go Room-by-Room

Now comes the fun part—organizing each room one-by-one! Begin by tackling one area at a time; this will help prevent overwhelm and keep the process manageable.

When organizing each room try using baskets or bins to contain items; this way everything has its place instead of being spread out across multiple surfaces (which can lead to messes).

In addition to creating designated spots for items in each room, consider how often certain items are used before deciding where they should live—for instance, if something is used regularly then it should be easy to reach without having to move other items out of the way first.

10 Home Organization Hacks

Get a dish rack and put it next to the sink.

That way, you can just put the dishes away after you’re done washing them instead of leaving them in the sink to dry.

Get some baskets and label them with different colors.

Assign each family member their own color and use the baskets to sort things like laundry, dishes, and toys. I have one basket for each room of our house for laundry. Once it’s full, it’s time for whoever lives in that room to put it away.

Use a shoe rack to store your shoes by the door.

This will help you keep track of your shoes and make it easy to grab them when you’re heading out the door.

Keep a laundry basket in each bedroom

so that everyone can easily put their dirty clothes in it. Then, you can just wash all the clothes at once instead of having to sort through them all later. Doing laundry by bedroom makes it much easier to sort into room baskets.

Use hooks to hang up things like coats, bags, and umbrellas.

This will help keep things off the floor and make them easy to grab when you’re leaving the house.

Use shelves to store things like books, games, and movies.

This way, they’ll be easy to find when you want them and they’ll be less likely to get lost or damaged. We put our games on a top shelf in one of our closets.

Get some storage bins and use them to organize things like holiday decorations, out-of-season clothing, or extra bedding.

This way, you can easily find what you’re looking for when you need it and know that it’s safely stored away when you don’t.

Use a calendar to keep track of important dates like birthdays, anniversaries, doctor’s appointments, etc.

This way, you’ll always know what’s coming up and be able to plan ahead accordingly. Check out our FREE Ultimate Home Planner.

Keep a list of things that need to be done around the house (like fixing a leaky faucet or changing the furnace filter) and check items off as you complete them.

This will help ensure that nothing gets forgotten or neglected over time.

Have a designated place for everything (keys, wallet, phone, etc.) so that you always know where it is when you need it.
