Homeschool During the Preschool & Kindergarten Years

Homeschooling during the early years lays the foundation for your entire homeschool career! That sounds kind of ominous, but it’s not as ominous as it seems.

Why is homeschooling during the early years important?

As I mention earlier, the early years lay the foundation for a child’s education. So many important things are taught in the first few years of school.

  • How to read
  • How to write
  • Counting
  • Basic Math
  • Fine Motor Skills
  • Telling Time

It’s all foundational & plays an important role in their future education. How can we learn to do Algebra or even cook from a recipe if we can’t read & do basic math?

This is why preschool and kindergarten homeschooling is so precious to me. It’s easy and fun to do, but it’s also a foundation for the future.

How to get started with homeschooling?

If you’re homeschooling Preschool or Kindergarten, chances are you are new to homeschooling.

Here’s what to do:

Look up your state or local laws.

You can find them on your local board of education site or at HSLDA.org. You want to make sure you are complying with all your local laws before you actually begin homeschooling. Some areas will require testing or paperwork to be submitted. Some will not.

I like the HSLDA website for homeschool information. This post lays out all the important ins and outs so you don’t feel so overwhelmed. Also, if you have any questions don’t be afraid to send me an email on our contact page. I have homeschooled for 10+ years. (I’m by no means able to give any legal advice, but I can help with other smaller matters.)
